Barefoot Bushcraft instructor Dave A. demonstrates how to make a compass using a few simple tools.
The leaf compass requires only three simple “tools” to create.
A leaf

A sail needle, available at most sewing stores or craft stores. These are simply giant, heavy, thick sewing needles.

The needle is then stroked multiple times with a knife blade on the eye end of the needle (not the “pointy end”) and placed on a leaf in a bowl of water. If done correctly, the needle eye will point north.
